Grant Writing Fundamentals

The art and science of effective grant-writing proposals for nonprofit organizations. Please note students must attend classes on both days below.

  • June 12th 9am-12noon
  • June 14th 4pm-7pm

CERTIFICATE COURSE FEE: $300
(50% Scholarship will be extended to early bird applicants up to 48 hours before class start date: discounted registration fee for course $150)

Lecturer/Instructor 1: Dr. Rashad Richey
Lecturer/Instructor 2: Dr. David Whiters

Dr. Rashad Richey has an extensive background in nonprofit development, executive leadership and fundraising. He has successfully created over 100 nonprofit organizations and sits on the Board of Directors for Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Recovery Consultants of Atlanta, Inc., Ocuprep Training and Children Rights. Dr. Richey holds several advance degrees including a Doctorate from Clark Atlanta University, completed studies in Executive Leadership from Cornell University and is currently completing his law degree at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.

Dr. David Whiters holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Georgia and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has more than 30-years experience as a Substance Use Treatment Professional. David’s first grant, written in 2001, was funded for 1 million dollars by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA); a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). David was successful at securing several subsequent SAMHSA grants, totaling more than 10 million dollars. His most recent successful grant award was from the State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD), for 500,000 dollars, to provide substance use treatment to homeless substance users, throughout DeKalb County, Georgia.
